At an investiture Ceremony held in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, in Christchurch, on 10 October 1998, the New Zealand Herald (Chevalier James M. McCready KCLJ, KLMJ, GCrLJ Kowhai Herald of Arms) proclaimed the Decrees of the Grand Master by appointing Dame Gweneth Halford-Bell RRC, GCLJ, GCMLJ, BMLJ as Grand Bailiff. Our special guest was Chancellor, Confrere James Seath Gowans CLJ, of the Malta Obedience.
The outgoing Grand Baliff, Chevalier, The Hon. Herbert J. Walker CMG, GCLJ, GOMLJ was made Grand Bailiff Emeritus, in recognition of his valued services to the Order.
At the Investiture, two postulants were admitted, Mr. Michael Joseph Gousmett OLJ, and the Reverend Gavin Harrison Yates as ChLJ.
The Grand Master's Merit Award was presented to Dame Veronica Pyle QSM, DLJ, OMLJ.
Five promotions to CLJ were awarded to the following members:
