The Annual Ceremony of the Order

Military and Hospitaller
Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem
Grand Priory of New Zealand -2003
On the 29th of November 2003, the Auckland Commandery hosted the annual ceremony of admissions, promotions and awards for 2003. The ceremony was held at the Faber Memorial Chapel in Mount Roskill in Auckland. The ceremony was presided over by the Grand Prior of New Zealand, HE Dame Gweneth Halford-Bell, RRC, GCLJ, GCMLJ, BMLJ, pp.
The promotions and awards for the Auckland Commandery (Chevalier Major Roderick H. Biel, ED, KLJ, MA) were as follows:
- Promotion to the rank of Knight Commander:
- Chevalier John Fenton Geayley, ED, KCLJ, SMLJ
- Promotion to the rank of Dame:
- Dame Yvonne Angela Rose Copland, JP, DLJ
- Dame Loraaine Hay, DLJ
- Dame Jacquline Frederica Natusch, DpED, DLJ, BMLJ
- Promotion to the rank of Knight:
- Chevalier Norman Lewis Mackenzie, KLJ, C.Eng., FRINA, MNZDE.
The Promotions and Awards for the Northern Commandery (Chevalier Doctor Neil Algar, QSO, KCLJ) were as follows:
- Promotion to the rank of Knight Commander:
- Chevalier Doctor Neil Algar, QSO, KCLJ
- Promotion to the Rank of Knight of Senior Chaplain:
- The Most Reverand Bishop Denis Browne, ONZM, SChLJ
- Promotion to the rank of Knight of Justice:
- Chevalier Michael Subritzky-Kusza, KLJ
- Promotion to the rank of Commander:
- Consoeur Eunice Algar, MBE, CLJ
The service was conducted by the Reverend James A. Withers, ChLJ, who is both a member of the Order and the CHaplain to the Roskill Retirement Village.
Upon completion of the ceremony, members of the Order travelled to Titirangi Returned Services Association clubroom in West Auckland, where a Christmas banquet was enjoyed by all, complete with roast beef, ham, and Christmas crackers.
